Raiders Fight, Fall to Tigers

Seneca Valley swimmers and divers got the closest they have come in recent years to beating rival North Allegheny last night. It all came down to the last few races! After a hard fought battle, our Raiders went down 106 to 80 for the girls and 103 to 83 for the boys. Despite the loss, the intense competition delivered many great dives and fast swims in a true team effort of support and good sportsmanship. Senior diver Mackenzie Clark kicked things off by breaking the 12-year old school record for girl's diving with 276.30 points. Then seniors/team captains Max Skeen and Owen Blazer, Sophomore Danny Simoes, and Freshman Haihan Xu broke the school record in the boy's 200 medley relay. Juniors Connor Anderson and Matt Stevens got their WPIAL qualifying times and personal bests in the 500 & 200 yard freestyle, respectively, and Sophomore Zach Lozowski also got his cut in the 100 yard freestyle. Senior/team captain Maya Dietz (100 fly), Junior Dilini Ranaweera (100 back), Sophomore Owen Tekelenburg (100 back), and freshmen Zack Cox (100 breast) & Logan Hockenberry (100 breast) all achieved personal best times in their races.

Seneca Valley Swimmers and Divers head into the final two meets of their regular season with 94 WPIAL cuts and a 10-1 record for both boys and girls. Good luck to the team as they take on Hampton away next Thursday, February 6th.
