Raiders Continue to Roll at Home

Raiders on a roll, trounce North Catholic at home

The Seneca Valley Swim and Dive Team continued to roll over opponents, taking two more wins for the season from North Catholic and improving to an undefeated record of 6-0 for both girls and boys.

DIVING

The SV girl divers started the meet off right - they all put up points for the Raiders. Junior Ashley Felitsky led with a 232.9 which earned her second place and her highest score of the season to date. Senior Abby Kutchma came in third with a 178, and Junior Ashley Stewart got fourth place points for the girls.

The boys had a 1-2-3 finish! Senior Matthew Laslavic was the first-place winner with a 234.3, scoring a whopping 51.6 points on his sky-high front 2 ½ somersault! Sophomore Jeremiah Laslavic came in second with a 186.85, which qualified him to WPIALs! And rounding out the team in third place for the boys was Freshman Isaiah Clerkley

GIRLS SWIMMING

In swimming action, the SV Girls went 1-2-3 in their first contest, the 200 Yard Medley Relay, and took all 14 points. The A Team brought their A Game, with senior and co-captain Kendall Craig, senior Annabel Morrisard, freshman Bella Kling, and senior Kristen Bedell bringing home the gold. The A team was supported by their B and C counterparts, with the team of sophomore Peri Gaguzis, senior Sydney Sweger, junior Cara Dell Toffalo, and junior Eva Carney grabbing silver by less than half a second as the team of seniors Dilini Ranaweera, Edie Sawyer, Emma Kreber, and sophomore Paige Walko thundered into the wall right behind them for the bronze. Then the Raiders took first, third, and fourth in the 200 Yard Freestyle, with junior Ria Dietz coming in first, followed by Delaney Molinero and Sloan Meyers, earning a total of 11 points for the team.

Next up was the 200 Yard Individual Medley, where freshman Taryn Wilson and juniors Eva and Bryn Carney brought home first, second, and fourth place finishes. In the 50 Yard Freestyle, junior Abby Perry took first, and seniors Bella Stefanowicz and Carly Brunello took second and fifth, respectively. North Catholic was able to hold off the Lady Raiders from first place in the 100 Yard Butterfly, but Cara Della Toffalo, Emma Kreber, and sophomore McKenzie Van Iddekinge took second, third, and fourth in the event for a strong showing and 9 points for Seneca Valley. Kendall Craig blew the competition away with her time of 55.26 in the 100 Yard Freestyle, with fellow seniors Sydney Sweger and Carly Brunello achieving second and fourth place finishes.

The odds had it in the 500 Yard Freestyle, with co-captain Edie Sawyer, Dilini Ranaweera, and Eva Carney taking first, third, and fifth and earning an even 10 points. In the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, the Raiders went 1-2-3 again in a commanding performance, with the SV A and B relay teams battling it out to the wall in a split-second finish, with the team of Kristen Bedell, Bella Kling, McKenzie Van Iddekinge, and Cara Della Toffalo taking the gold and the team of Ria Dietz, Peri Gaguzis, Sloan Meyers, and Sydney Sweger getting to the wall a second later and taking the silver. The C relay of Taryn Wilson, Paige Walko, Carly Brunello, and Eve Carney came in third, helping the Raiders sweep the event and capture all 14 points.

In the 100 Yard Backstroke, Kendall Craig again earned first place with a great swim, with assists from Abby Perry and Bryn Carney. With their insurmountable lead, the SV girls’ remaining events were swum in exhibition. Seniors Annabel Morrisard, Bella Stefanowicz, and Emma Kreber had the three fastest times in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, with Annabel and Bella finishing only .27 apart. And in the final event, the SV B relay beat the A relay by in an upset, with the team of Bella Kling, Kristen Bedell, Ria Dietz, and Taryn Wilson besting the team of Peri Gaguzis, Cara Della Toffalo, McKenzie Van Iddekinge, and Sydney Sweger by more than three seconds.

The SV girls won their meet by a score of 108 to 69 over North Catholic, notching their sixth consecutive win for the season.

BOYS SWIMMING

The Boys team started off winning the 200 Yard Individual Medley Relay. The A Relay Team consisting of Kevin Donaldson, Logan Hockenberry, Daniel Simoes, and Matt Stevens were able to hold off North Catholic to take first place with a time of 1:43.55. The B relay of Danny Kane, Zach Lozowski, Frankie Walton, and Renhan Xu swam hard and were able to get the third place points for the team. The team then turned its sights to winning the 200 Freestyle. Sophomore Gavin Blazer ensured they got that win with a time of 1:53.91, and Owen Tekelenburg and Zach Cox locked up third and fourth place.

In the 200 Individual Medley, the SV boys were not able to get first, but team captain Connor Anderson captured second. Alex Kim was able to finish in fourth and Noah Petersen ensured points for his team by finishing fifth. The Boys fared better in the 50 Yard Freestyle, with each swimmer able to beat his North Catholic counterpart. Haihan Xu finished first with a 23.03, Connor Seeley finished third, and freshman Ronny Royhab finished fifth.

North Catholic was able to keep our swimmers out of the winner’s spot in the 100 Butterfly but were followed close into the wall by junior Kevin Donaldson who finished in second. Zach Cox captured fourth and Owen Tekelenburg brought home fifth for the team. In the 100 Freestyle, co-captain Matt Stevens was able to avenge the loss in the previous event and got to the wall first with a time of 53.00. Connor Seeley finished third and Ronnie Royhab finished sixth.

The 500 Freestyle was where the Boys decided to turn on the afterburners and leave the North Catholic team far behind. Junior Danny Simoes came in with an easy victory with a time of 5:01.59. Gavin Blazer swam well, finishing in second, and Freshman Danny Kane was able to hold off the three opposing swimmers guaranteeing SV the third spot. The Seneca boys then continued their winning ways in the 200 Freestyle Relay. The A Relay team was led by Co-captain Connor Anderson, followed by Haihan Xu, Brian Whitney, and Owen Tekelenburg, and won the event with a time of 1:37.30. The were pushed hard by the SV B relay team of Kevin Donaldson, Zach Cox, Matt Stevens, and Connor Seeley, who brought home second place for the team.

In the 100 Backstroke the boys again took the top three spots. Renhan Xu won the event with a 1:01.21, followed closely by Logan Hockenberry. Noah Peterson was able to capture third in the event for the clean sweep.

With a comfortable lead and the meet victory guaranteed, the Boys swam the last two events in exhibition. In the 100 Breaststroke Zach Lozowski came in with the best time for the SV boys, followed by Frankie Walton and Alex Kim. Then in the 400 Freestyle relay the SV boys came away with the best three times, albeit in exhibition. The A relay of Kevin Donaldson, Connor Anderson, Connor Seeley, and Gavin Blazer finished in 3:29.95. The B relay of Haihan Xu, Owen Tekelenburg, Matt Stevens, and Danny Kane were able to beat the C relay team of Zach Cox, Brian Whitney, Renhan Xu, and Danny Simoes.

In the end, Seneca Valley Boys were able to make this an easy victory with a 105 to 69 final tally.
