Girls Sweep, Boys Split at Tri-Meet

The SV Raiders Swim and Dive Team participated in a tri-meet Saturday, January 5th at Grove City College. The tri-meet (three teams competing – Seneca Valley, Upper St. Clair, and Cannon Macmillan) was swum as a single meet, with two heats of each event, but was scored like two dual meets. The SV Raider Girls team won against both of their worthy opponents, while the Raider Boys team beat Cannon Macmillan but lost to Upper St. Clair in their first loss of the season. SV swimmers and divers secured another 7 individual WPIAL cuts, bringing the team total to 29 WPIAL-qualifying swimmers with 60 cuts!

Final Scores - Girls: SV 103.5 pts vs. Upper St. Clair 82.5 pts ~ SV 148 pts vs. Cannon Macmillan 37 pts.
Final Scores - Boys: SV 75 pts vs. Upper St. Clair 110 pts, ~ SV 118 pts vs. Cannon Macmillan 62 pts.

SV Boys hold a 4-1 season record to date while the Girls remain undefeated at 5-0. The Raiders take on Bethel Park away on Thursday, January 10th; their next home meet is on Monday, January 14th against Pine Richland.

SV Girls did very well, taking 1st, 2nd, and 4th place in all 6 dives. Sophomore Rylie Smith took second place overall and earned a chance to represent SV at WPIAL diving in February. Senior Katelyn Caccamo and Junior Meghan Keppler took 1st and 4th place, contributing to the girls’ win. SV boys also did well, with Sophomores Matt Laslavic and Trevor Elliott and Freshman Sam Skeen took 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place with their 6 dives.

SV Girls captured 1st and 3rd place in the 200 Medley Relay. Freshman Abby Perry, Sophomore Bella Stefanowicz, and Senior Sarah Stevens made quick work of the 200 Freestyle, taking 2nd, 4th, & 5th place overall. Sophomores Kendall Craig & Edie Sawyer and Senior Katie Clark cleaned up in the 200 Individual Medley, taking 1st, 2nd, & 4th. Then Sophomore Annabel Morrisard and Senior Alyvia Meanor took 2nd & 3rd place in the 50 Yard Freestyle followed by Freshman Ria Dietz and Alyvia Meanor again in the 100 Butterfly (3rd & 5th place) with strong support from Kristen Bedell & Sydney Sweger in the 50 Free and Gianna Petrella, Maya Dietz, & Dilini Ranaweera in the 100 Fly.

Kendall Craig decimated the 100 Free with her 1st place finish, with Sophomore Annabel Morrisard and Junior Julia Listwak not far behind at 2nd & 4th. Then Junior Taylor Schoeffel, Bella Stefanowicz, and Abby Perry repeated their excellent season of 500 Freestyle swims by going 3-4-5 in that tough race, with backup from Emma Kreber, Emily Tekelenburg, and Delaney Molinero. The teams of Annabel Morrisard-Alyvia Meanor-Ria Dietz-Bella Stefanowicz and Kristen Bedell-Maya Dietz-Gianna Petrella-Delaney Molinero took 2nd & 4th place in the 200 Free Relay, with the team of Emma Kreber-Dilini Ranaweera-Emily Kavanaugh-Cara Della Toffalo shutting down the Cannon Mac girls relays.

In the final events of the night, Sarah Stevens took 1st place in the 100 back while Taylor Schoeffel tied another swimmer for 2nd. SV breaststrokers continue to dominate, with Edie Sawyer, Katie Clark, and Carly Brunello easily snagging 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in the event. Then the girls 400 Freestyle Relays took 2nd & 3rd place, with the team of Kendall Craig-Julia Listwak-Alyvia Meanor-Bella Stefanowicz putting up SV Girls’ fastest time in the 400 Free Relay so far this year.

Freshmen Kevin Donaldson and Zach Lozowski blasted through the 200 Free, with Zach earning his very first WPIAL cut! Brothers Danny and Jonny Simoes and Sophomore Renhan Xu had a good showing in the 200 IM, followed by Juniors Max Skeen and Pace Zec and Freshman Owen Tekelenburg in the 50 Yard Freestyle. Junior Owen Blazer easily took 1st place in the 100 Fly, besting the next closest swimmer by several body lengths. Senior Max Bredl and Max Skeen took it to the max with their 2nd & 4th place finishes in the 100 Freestyle, with support from Sophomore Brian Whitney and Owen Tekelenburg. Kevin Donaldson dazzled with his 1st place finish in the 500 Free, with Renhan Xu taking 4th place and Matt Stevens coming SOOOOOO much closer to his goal time (he’ll get there!).

Then the boys 200 Free Relay team of Owen Blazer-Max Bredl-Danny Simoes-Kevin Donaldson took 2nd place in a thrilling race that had them in the lead until the last few yards when they got out-touched at the wall (still a great race, guys!). This event was a Tale of Two Owens, as the relay team of Owen Tekelenburg-Matt Stevens-Connor Anderson-Sam Skeen battled hard as well. Owen Blazer, Jonny Simoes, and Max Bredl captured 2nd, 4th, and 5th place in the 100 Backstroke, while Zach Lozowski took 3rd in the 100 Breaststroke. In the final relay, SV Boys took 2nd and 3rd place in the 400 Freestyle Relay in a tight battle with Upper St. Clair.

Way to go, SV!
