SV Starts Season with Two Wins

The SV Raiders Swim and Dive Team kicked off the 2018-19 season with a bang on Tuesday, beating the Knoch Knights 102 to 74 for the girls and 97 to 68 for the boys. SV swimmers and divers secured a total of 25 individual WPIAL cuts and 4 relay WPIAL cuts at their first meet of the season!

Girls

The girls 200 Yard Medley Relay team, consisting of senior Sarah Stevens, freshman Abby Perry, junior Gianna Petrella, and senior Emily Kavanaugh, got the meet off to a fast start, placing first in the event. Sophomore girls swept first, second and third place in the next two races, with Bella Stefanowicz, Annabel Morrisard, and Delaney Molinero winning the top spots in the 200 Freestyle and Kendall Craig, Edie Sawyer, and Carly Brunello taking the 200 Individual Medley (IM).

The SV girls continued the streak, with senior Alyvia Meanor winning the 50 Freestyle, with sophomore Kristen Bedell and senior Katie Clark coming in second and third. Freshman Ria Dietz (100 Butterfly), Kendall Craig (100 Freestyle), Bella Stefanowicz (500 Freestyle), Edie Sawyer (100 Breaststroke), and Sarah Stevens (100 Backstroke) all placed first in their events, with strong support from Julia Listwak & Maya Dietz (100 Butterfly), Alyvia Meanor & Annabel Morrisard (100 Freestyle), Taylor Schoeffel & Abby Perry (500 Freestyle & 100 Backstroke), and Carly Brunello & Katie Clark (100 Breaststroke). The Raider girls took first, second, and third place in the 200 and 400 Yard Freestyle Relays to close out the win over the Knights. 

Boys

The boys 200 Medley Relay, consisting of senior Jonathan Simoes, freshman Daniel Simoes, senior Max Bredl, and freshman Zach Lozowski got the boys off to a swift start, taking first in the event. Freshman Kevin Donaldson took first place in the 200 Freestyle, then Owen Blazer followed with a first-place finish in the 200 IM, shattering a 26-year-old school record. Junior Max Skeen, Jonathan Simoes, and Zach Lozowski took first, second, and third place in the 50 Freestyle.

The SV boys continued to put up fast times in their races, with Owen Blazer (100 Butterfly), Kevin Donaldson (100 Freestyle), Sophomore Renhan Xu (500 Freestyle), Johnny Simoes (100 Backstroke), and Danny Simoes (100 Breaststroke) all winning their races, with strong backing from Max Bredl & Pace Zec (100 Butterfly), Zach Lozowski & Brian Whitney (100 Freestyle), Matt Stevens & Connor Anderson (500 Freestyle), Max Bredl & Max Skeen (100 Backstroke), and Sam Skeen & Brian Whitney (100 Breaststroke). The Raider boys took first and second in the 200 Freestyle Relay and first, second, and third in the 400 Freestyle Relay to finish off the Knights.

Diving

Raider Divers did equally well with senior Katelyn Caccamo placing first, Meghan Keppler second, and Maddie Montalbano fourth for the girls. Sophomores Matt Laslavic and Trevor Elliott took first and second place for the boys, respectively, and freshman Sam Skeen contributed to the boys win over Knoch. 

 

The SV Swim and Dive Team next takes on Peters Township away on Tuesday, December 18th away. Their next home meet is Friday, December 21st at 6:00 PM against North Catholic.
